Ticket Trouble!

Ticket Price Increases and how to save money on tickets at Theme parks.

June 11, 2012 - ZacharyFakterowitz

It’s that time of year again.  Ticket price increases are now going into affect at some of the major US theme parks.  Here are the ticket prices for 1 day, one park tickets.
  • Walt Disney World tickets are now $89 (up from $85)
  • Universal Orlando tickets are now $89 (up from $85)
  • Disneyland Resort tickets are now $87 (up from $80)

Universal originally announced tickets would be $88 for a one day one park ticket, but quietly raised prices one dollar a few days after Disney announced it’s price increase.

With Theme Park ticket prices hitting record highs this year you might be a bit skeptical to want to go to the parks this year.  Not to worry there are plenty of ways to save money on your next trip!

  1. Buy Tickets in advance- Tickets increase in price usually around June of each year.  Buy your tickets well in advance to avoid sudden price increases.
  2. Buy multiple day tickets- The more days you add to your ticket the cheaper each individual day costs. A one day Disney ticket will cost you $89. A 10 day Disney ticket will cost you $318, it may sound expensive but really you’re only paying $31.80 per day.
  3. Buy your tickets online- Buying your tickets through Universal Orlando’s website can save you $20 dollars off the gate price!  That means your ticket is now only $66.
  4. Go with a large group- You might be able to get a group ticket rate that would be cheaper.
  5. Annual passes/season pass- Plan to visit the park often?  Price out how much a Season pass would be.  Even if you are planning on making just 2 multi-day trips to a park, it may actually be cheaper to buy an AP.  Price your options out before buying.
  6. Look for seasonal discounts- During times of year where the parks are less crowded you’ll find the parks offering great deals!
  7. State Resident tickets- State resident tickets are often much cheaper than buying regular tickets.  I save a couple hundred dollars on my passes each year just by living in the state of Florida.
  8. Authorized ticket sellers- Ok, I’ve never used one, but Travel agents and AUTHORIZED third party ticket sellers advertise lower prices.  Always check to see that the seller is Authorized (perhaps call the park to check).  Please use extreme caution when doing this.
  9. Join the Theme Park Coaster Club- Theme Park Coaster Club the offical club of Coaster-net.com and it’s a great way to save money. Memberships start at just $5 bucks. A membership gives you you discounts at 65 parks in the US and Canada. Memberships also include discounted admission to other attractions and hotels. You’ll even be invited to special member only events! Find out more at http://www.themeparkcoasterclub.com/

Keep an eye out.  It’s easy to save money if you pay attention!
