I very much perfer hardstyle music as opposed to calmer stuff, so maybe my opinion is a tad flawed anyway.
Oh don't get me wrong, some of Dubstep is calm, deep and minimal, but there is many different styles within the genre. There are some tunes out there that are probably comparable to the impact that Hardstyle has on the listener. Tunes like Coki - Spongebob, Borgore - One Step Ahead and Babysham - Black Widow Spider are definitely some of the harder, more aggressive tunes out there that the genre has to offer. Check them out if you want.

Mt. Eden is one of my favourites, and probably the artist that got me listening more seriously.
Another act that has become quite big in the UK is Chase & Status. I don't know if any of their stuff has been played out in the States, but they're probably one of the most popular mainstream dubstep-esque acts here at the moment.
I strongly recommend their latest album 'No More Idols'; absolutely brilliant!

Anyway, I like some dubstep, as some dubstep remixes are fantastic. I like most energetic electronica though.
