The news is in, and our very own Devin Olson and Lee Sandy were on site yesterday at Kings Dominion to cover the press conference and media event at the Virginia theme park.

Now, we bring you our first of a several-part update for Intimidator 305: 88 pictures of the unveiling ceremony and construction progress of the world's fifth-tallest, fourth-longest-dropping complete-circuit coaster in history.

Click here and scroll down to our Intimidator gallery for a look at all of the festivities from the press conference yesterday.

Guests of honor included Dale Earnhardt, Sr.'s daughter Taylor Earnhardt; Dale Earnhardt, Inc.'s Executive vice president and general manager Jeff Steiner; the Commonwealth of Virginia's lieutenant governor Bill Bolling; Cedar Fair president & chief executive officer Richard Kintzel; and Cedar Fair's chief operating officer Jack Falfas.

In our next part of the update, you'll get an audio-visual look at the media day through Devin Olson's event video.

In our third part of the update, we'll be revealing our newest Ride Gallery page for this massive steel coaster. Then, we'll be getting a look at the construction site as yellow support columns continue to rise.

Next week, stay tuned for the big coaster announcement from Carowinds!

The second part of our Intimidator 305 update consists of our look back at the press conference. Experience the history-changing announcement for yourself of the third giga-coaster in the world that took place on Thursday with our new video.

It takes a look at the actual event with its guest speakers and guests of honor, working ride model courtesy of CoasterDynamix, and a small peek at the construction site. After our full Ride Gallery feature article and its accompanying page is released, we'll be getting out to the construction site for a tour of the ride's five acres as the steel rises towards its 305-foot peak.

For now though, enjoy this little video!:
