It's interesting reading all of these reasoning's for particular ratings and such, I'm particularly curious why Disaster Transport, (which tried to dislocate my spine), is so high up on your list Epinephrine, I was going to ask about Millennium Force being down as well, but I see you've offer an explanation already. In other news, two very important things happened this past week. 1. I visited Cedar Point for the first time (three total days in the park). 2. I've officially (and finally) topped 100 different roller coasters ridden, I left Cedar Point having ridden 102 different roller coasters total. Thus, here are my updated rankings after my trips to Kings Dominion and Cedar Point this season. ^I'm not sure I've ever seen another person's rankings that I totally agree with like I do yours. Really my only question mark in your rankings is Mean Streak at #7 in your wood count.

I honestly noticed our rankings were quite similar when I was rummaging through this thread, and I knew I'd have a few questions about that. The flaw in all of this is that my only two rides on Mean Streak were in the front row, and in my opinion, I thought there wasn't much wrong with this ride. My brother got a back row ride later on in the trip and did say it was a bit rougher but still has it ranked in approximately the same place I do. Two major rough spots are the bottom of the first and second drops. The other drops are fairly smooth and have some decent airtime, specifically the last drop before the MCBR. The first half of the ride up the that point is fast, rough, but fun in my opinion. Yes it was a bit rough (specifically some jack-hamming and shaking) but those Dinn trademark quarter fan turns at the tops of each of the first few hills are quite fun, however, I did notice some of the obvious design flaws in them (if you anticipate them while riding it isn't an issue at all).

So the only really bad spots are the bottom of the first two drops and the banked turn into the MCBR, which is a nasty one as well. I thought the back half of the ride was a ball. It wasn't rough at all, provided a little bit of airtime, the turns and well placed and unexpected, and it was just a lot of fun. I think the thing that really made this thing shoot up my list was that it didn't kill me. Both Hurlers, Roar, Wildcat (with PTC trains), Gwazi, and the like while being more intense, thrilling, and having more airtime, all were just too rough to be really enjoyable. I love being thrown around, but not to that extent. Mean Streak while lacking in some of the other thrilling categories didn't kill me, which led me to appreciate the thrilling categories more despite the fact it was as intense as the other woodies I listed.

2013 Agenda: Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Dollywood, Dollywood's Splash Country, and Carowinds.

^No love for the B&Ms? Your top is Alpie (understandable) but all the way down at 15?

^^And I know Gwazi jackhammers through its entire course but you've gotta love that fantastic dueling layout! I'll tell you what, I'm supper stoked for the Millennium Flyers BGA is finally gonna put on it.

He has Apollo's Chariot #7... but I will say the B&M's are way down on his list.

And I completely agree. Gwazi has one of the best designs I've ever seen, but it just killed me so much I had to rank it that low... however, with Millennium Flyers I have no doubt both Lion and Tiger with shoot up into my top 5 woodies. I am quite stoked as well.

Most of the Beemers just can't compare to other great coasters I've ridden... simple. It's hard to enjoy the non-stop inversions, and nothing else, on B&Ms... So unless they have something else about them that's unique or that I like, I'll take so many other coasters over them.

The stand-ups, Bizarro/Scream!, and Dark Knight are especially bad and pointless, though.

^As far as the stand-ups, Georgia Scorcher is one of B&M's best for giving a great ride and not being all about inversions. Not sure if you've ridden that one yet. And I seem to remember you saying somewhere before that Flyers and you don't really get along, which is a shame because Tatsu and Manta are both fantastic pieces of coaster engineering.

^I haven't ridden Georgia Scorcher yet, but I doubt I'll like it. Riddler's Revenge, Chang, and Mantis are all pretty good rides; they have nice length to them and fairly unique layouts... But the standing up just ruins the ride for me. I can't even enjoy it. So even if Georgia Scorcher has a good layout, the standing up position will probably ruin the experience for me.

And you're right, Tatsu is another one I forgot to mention that is really bad in my last post. It's ranked #75 on my list above. I absolutely hate the flying position. I rode Superman Ultimate Flight a week ago, and that is the only B&M to not be listed in my Top 100. Vekoma's flyers are even worse... Batwing is ranked #205 at the literal bottom of my list and Firehawk is very far down there as well.

drachenfirebgw, I have ridden all of your steel list (Invertigo @ KI instead of Two-Face @ SFA). I am most glad that you too love B&M's. On the other hand, you ranked Storm Runner, Hulk, Magnum, and Mummy a little high for my taste. Yours would be more in line with the norm though. What I really don't understand is GASM of Great Adventure way up at 31 or Gemini way down at 40 and 41. I also would move a boomerang like Sidewinder to just underneath a SLC like Mind Eraser. Other than these changes, yours are just about in the same places relative to those in my list. I have also ridden all of your woodens. I am with CoasterCrazy; Mean Streak should be way bellow the other 18 you mentioned. You should put it at 30; that would give some space for many that you haven't gone on yet. It really totally stinks; there is a ton of breaking. Along with Rattler and the previous Texas Giant, MS manages to be slow but still very rough at times.
Coasteridiot, I couldn't agree more about stand-ups. That ride position trashes them. I really liked Chang, but that is the only one that I would rank above SLC's, boomerangs, or mine trains. On the other hand, I really like flyers. I mean B&M flyers. The Vekoma's leave us on our backs WAY too long. They are only slightly more fun than the other types that I just mentioned (stand-ups, SLC's, ...).

^I don't know about only, but you are definitely in the minority. However, have you ever ridden anything other than an SuF clone? Because I rate Vekoma Flying Dutchmen over SuFs, but Tatsu and Manta are incredible!

Yeah, I might get a chance to ride Tatsu next year. The Superman clones do seem to lack compared to the Tatsu and Manta, I even prefer Flying Coaster at Elitch Gardens over Superman... Posted Image

Well Brad...since you asked for questions, how about a few... with comments, and you can share your reasons and experiences.

First, I don't know how some of you guys can rank your woodies in with your steel coasters...I just can't, no way, so good for you.

Manta #2 overall, wow, you certainly didn't let the "enthusiasts don't like Flyers" consenus color your opinion, and I respect that. I can't wait to hit SWO probably next year.

Kumba #5 out of 92, again, an amazing rating...why so?

Steel Force #10 overall...sweet, glad to see it that high.

Kraken @ 18; seems a bit low...what didn't impress you about one of the best Floorless??

Maverick at #25! Everyone seems to rate Mav in their top 5 to 10, no matter how high their credits...how come?

The infamous Hurler only 3 lower than Maverick at #28?!? Sorry...no words can explain that away...whew.

Volcano @ #33...well, I have her at around #5...I still luv it.

Shockwave at #50, barely outside your top half? She's at the bottom 5 or so of mine. Very few coasters totally digust me, or bore me, or hurt me, and Shockwave gets the honor of all three, imo.

That's enuff...nice life list Brad, hope you don't mind my thoughts, feel free to strongly defend and share your reasons, luv to hear them ;)

-Manta is absolutely amazing. I don't get why people hate Flyers, they're really awesome rides.

-Kumba is just the epitome of what a B&M should be. It's smooth, forceful, classic, and unique.

-Steel Force gave me some really good rides, it was smooth, had comfortable laterals, and major airtime.

-B&M's Floorless coasters just don't impress me. They also rattle a lot, while Kraken didn't rattle had a couple uncreative spots and the transition out of the Corkscrew was pretty bad.

-I rode Maverick thrice and it's lucky to be that high. Every single transition slammed my neck and the airtime was so strong and sudden and the ride had already stapled me. On my third ride I braced a lot, but I shouldn't have to brace that much to enjoy a coaster.

-I absolutely love Hurler. Like Manta, I don't understand why people don't like it. It's rough but it's a fun rough, there's a lot of airtime, and it's a good ride.

-Volcano is just so uncreative. It's not that much fun aside from the launch. As the years have gone on, even with the new trains, it's been shuffling more than it did years ago.

-Like Manta and Hurler, I absolutely don't get why people hate Shockwave. It's an awesome ride. There's force, ejector airtime, and it's not rough. At least if it's rough, I can't tell. On Mantis when my head moved around it hit something (and something that was very hard, at that) but Shockwave doesn't slam my head (or my body) at all.

Any other questions?

I found your rankings of Apollo's Chariot and Diamondback respectively to be kinda interesting. Would you mind going into detail about that? Was it something with the trains? Personally I have Diamondback at #2 on my list.

Apollo's Chariot is just so awesome. It's perfectly smooth, there's good airtime (with 2 spots of ejector), and it's a fun, re-rideable ride. Diamondback is totally killed by the trims, MCBR, and trains. The longer axles allow the train to shuffle more and it does just that at the bottom of hills (particularly the one right before the trimmed hill, it shuffled really badly). The trim slows it so much and the MCBR does even more so that there's no airtime past them.

To HCL:

I'm really surprised by Fahrenheit at #6, ahead of so many other great coasters. What stood out about it to you? The ride was just so average... I currently have it ranked at #40.

Griffon and TTD are also a little high. Don't get me wrong, I love both, but there's better.

Also, was SFOG's Goliath disappointing or is it just that the coasters ahead of it are simply more awesome?

I guess you must have ridden DB on a bad day. There was a bit of a shimmy but it wasn't terrible and the trim wasn't on hard at all. And from the back row, I caught ejector air that kept me out of my seat 2/3 of the way down that awesome first drop.

I absolutely love Fahrenheit. Every element is what I enjoy in a coaster (except the corkscrews). I loved the first drop and the norwegian loop followed by a great Cobra Roll. The last 1/3 of the ride is just positive and negative g's that sit really well with me.

Griffon has a lot of meaning to me seeings as it was my first major ride. I feel like it really kicked of my love of coasters and I felt awful even putting so far down on my list. I just love the vertical drop feeling also. Of the 4 rides I've ridden stressing vertical drops 3 of them are in my top 10.

TTD is a great ride and I can't get that crazy launch out of my head. I don't think it will be top ten for much longer.

Goliath at SFOG wasn't a disappointed. I'm not a huge fan of B&M Hypers and I was surprised when I enjoyed Intimidator at Carowinds so much. I'm sure it's a great ride to some people but that type of ride isn't my favorite. There are simply better rides in my mind.

steel-Rock, I explained my Mean Streak ranking earlier. Let's see, I last rode Storm Runner five years ago and enjoyed it quite a bit, and thinks it deserves said ranking. I rode Magnum XL-200 twice a couple weeks ago, my first ride was quite rough, but my second ride saved it in regards to rankings. While the airtime and turnaround a violent, I figured out how to ride it, thus it was more enjoyable the second time around. Revenge of the Mummy was just a good time, not sure how else to describe it in regards to what you haven't heard. The Great American Scream Machine is a classic. I rode it twice and having ridden Arrow loopers I know how to ride 'em. I thought this this was a blast, the only a few rough spots. The transition into the MCBR, and the turn into the corkscrews. I thought it was smooth, the inversion were fun, the first drop was absolutely incredible, and the design is fantastic. Also, Gemini low? I figured many people would have it lower than me, and yes, I have moved it up since then.

Coasteridiot, while I haven't ridden it I'm confident you'll like the Georgia Scorcher, many if not most people I've seen have it ranked as the best stand-up they've ridden, it's not what it looks like.

Brad, BJ asked you all the questions I was going to so that's good.

And I've updated my rankings a little bit after my first reactions of Cedar Point.

2013 Agenda: Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Dollywood, Dollywood's Splash Country, and Carowinds.

Coaster Count: 120 - Griffon Count: 52

^I don't know about only, but you are definitely in the minority. However, have you ever ridden anything other than an SuF clone? Because I rate Vekoma Flying Dutchmen over SuFs, but Tatsu and Manta are incredible!

Yeah, I might get a chance to ride Tatsu next year. The Superman clones do seem to lack compared to the Tatsu and Manta, I even prefer Flying Coaster at Elitch Gardens over Superman... Posted Image

#1. Manta / Tatsu
#2. Superman clones
#3. Vekoma Flying Dutchmen beginning with Batwing

I'm not even sure where to put in the Zamperla Volare's; I have only seen them on rcdb. They may fit in the "Strangest Coasters..." thread.

Brad, you are right about Apollo's Chariot vs. Diamondback. I would add that AC deals mostly with floater air which is what B&M's are known for. Diamondback is a bit rough in the back seats and its air feels a bit forced.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Kumba is a bit loud and rough for a B&M. It's new paint job will probably move it up the charts for me. Tunnels that really feel like they are in the ground are always a big plus.

Steel Force has great airtime. It's a little rougher than others toward the end. As above, I would like the tunnels in the ground.

Magnum has less height and is slower than MF and TTD but is much more rough. Gemini and Wicked Twister are also better.

Maverick has some good launches and steep drops but they are a bit short.

Storm Runner is over with in just 50 seconds. Only TTD can thrill you in just that little a time.

Volcano has some great launches, but the inversions are all the same. It's a bit of a one-hit- wonder.

Mummy has short launches, drops, and turns. The special effects are great, but the ride would be nothing without them.

Hulk dies after the drop down into the mist. The banking turns and corkscrews are nothing compared to what Kraken, Kumba, or Superman Krypton have.
