Does anyone know if there exists a rollercoaster but the visuals are all virtual? I mean not just a sim ride but a sim ride with real gforce?

Don't you get G force with normal Simulators?

They are only small bumps not significant gravitational pulls as experienced on a coaster.

To answer your question, no there is not a real coaster that has you were virtual reality goggles while ridding. That would be an interesting idea for a next level thrill ride however. It's been discussed on limited scale before. The biggest reason why nothing like that exists is the simple fact that it would be so expensive. Still if it ever became more affordable, I could see it happening some time in the next 20 years or so. We have about reached the limits of what the human body can physically tolerate on a roller coaster so the next natural progression has to be the senses. We can find ways to trick the senses into feeling more that is actually happening.

I don't think a visual/physical coaster will work. Pick one or the other. If you have both of them together, you get distracted by the visual effects and wind up not being prepared for turns and drops.

That could be quite jerky...

For all those that doubt it...Click now or forever pay the consequences

Maybe the wrong thread, but sooner or later, in a few decades, we probably won't be able to tell the difference.

Oh yeah, I know about that. I was thinking we were discussing the possibility of wearing some sort of virtual reality goggles on an actual coaster. Kuka has been advertising the potential of an enclosed ride capsule for a while now.

And now open in Inoventions East, The Sum of All Thrills, a next generation coaster simulator utilizing the Kuka robot arm system.

Mission Space? I mean I know it's not a rollercoaster but i mean, that simulator creates extreme gforces. I'll be excited to try out the robotic arm ride, for I've wanted to do those since they were released and i feel they finally have a purpose.

Mission: SPACE is the closest thing to this.

I actually think it's a pretty good idea to build a roller coaster and have entirely simulated visuals and audio. I think the ride would need to be indoors and relatively small due to economic reasons. If you build a huge roller coaster, it would be silly to simulate the already spectacular real visuals.

Spiderman and Darkastle are perhaps other real examples of this kind of thing. Where real physical movement is used. Since real physical movement cannot be sucessfully simulated, it makes sense to me to fool our senses which can be fooled easier to produce an interesting ride.

There's a ride that Mack have on their website called "hidden reality" which is potentially a lot like this concept.
