Well I finally finished my first NL coaster. It is up in the DE as Wolf Hill. Here's a screenshot.

From that view it looks really good, especially for your first NL coaster but it its just a still and thats not enough to really go one.

Ouch, even for a first. Here's some things to work on:

1. Keep things such as brake runs, stations, lifthills straight. You do this by highlighting the segment that needs to be straightened, then press the 'I' key. If you have something like a brakerun directly into the station like a lot of real coasters do, make sure the brakesegment and station segment flow right into eachother.

2. For turns, corks any anything that needs banking, go back and fourth (from the editor to the simulator) and make sure lats stay particularly low. For example, the lateral G's should never hit over 1G (try to narrow it down to .3-8). Those corks were deadly. By the way, using CTRL + G on a segment will smooth the segment, and using it with more than one segment will help make the transition between the two rather smooth (but you may have to tinker with the track after CTRL=G'ing it to make it more realistic feeling.) AND, use Con Roll for inversions, turns, or anything that has a bank that looks better with con roll.

3. Good job using hand-built supports; those were decent for a beginner... but, they were a beginner's work. To start, you use too many supports, it is overkill. Just work on that for now, then I'll get even more picky and show you how to make them look as real as possible without using 3D objects.

Picky things:

1. Coloring: when coloring, make your own colors. Faded colors (more on the matte side) look great in the simulator.
2. Lift hill was too steep.
3. Loop was lopsided, so was the immelman and the corks... as everything would be coming from a beginner, so don't take this so deeply.

Thats about it. Expect a lot of criticism when you first start. But I'm not just doing this to sound smart, I'm doing this for your benefit.

Hey, FFan, don't worry about grumpy up here ^ :P He does this to me all the time. I think I've done good and he has something different to say . PS: No offense Vicarious, you have to admit, you can be pretty harsh judging. Maybe that's good though.

We all know about our first coaster, and I'll tell you that while my first coaster was somewhat smooth, it was not original. Your first is a lot more original but somewhat lacking in smoothness. Loved the layout by the way!it wasn't the best first coaster ever, but I DO SEE POTENTIAL. Keep it going! :)

My eyes! You need to seriously use the Ctrl+G key. Its bumpy, pumpy, and pulls a bunch of G spikes everywhere. For example--make sure the transition between the corkscrew and the turnaround is not over 25-30 degrees. From the video it seemed like 45-ish. You want passengers to land on their rear, not their rib cage. Second, your track jerks passengers around like marionettes, which means getting their necks broken. A good way to check for "pumpiness" is ride from the second or third car. If you see the car in front of you jerk around... not good for the riders. If you say that "nuh-uh, that ain't true" I shake you like a marionette like your ride does until your head falls off... JK .

I judge harshly because no one else does. I'm trying to help him out in the end--get him going to make his next ride better in the places he did bad the first ride.

^I think that Silver Swordsman judged very harshly. Can you judge just as harshly in my thread? Please?

OK, I am a beginner to, so don't take my words for a grain of salt.

Pros:

Pretty good heartlining on the Jojo
Supported nicely
Great Layout
Better than my first NoLimits coaster. :P

Cons:

Decapitated on the Jojo
Overall pumpiness, but especially bad on the over bank
Corkscrews...Flatten out the ending, make it go a bit farther out, and the bank the turns
Zero-G was not heartlined

Once again, my first supported coaster was very similar, complete with ribe cage turns, unheartlined Immelmans and Dive loops, and turny brake runs, so just keep chugging away and you'll get better. You're already better than me. ;)

Wraparound corkscrew!!!!!!!!!!! Awesome. I"ll tell you what, while your execution is definitely still lacking, I know that will improve with time. But you already have the biggest intangiable and that is an eye for visually pleasing and unique layouts. Keep it up.

It is now time for the official anouncemnt of ............

Forest Fire!

Deep in the forest, a volcano erupts while you a hiking the forest trails. Can you outrun the fireballs and pools of lava to get back to the visitor center in time?

I assume this is still a work in progress because there really isn't any forest to speak of. I would prefer that you make the rails and spine the same color just for realisms sake. The layout looks pretty fun though I can't tell a ton about it from those 3 screens that you gave us. Can't wait to see more.

Where to begin...

Pros:

Nice layout
PRE-LIFT!!!

Cons

Drop into pre-lift is a bit steep. I've done a vertical one with a Euro-fighter, but what are the G-forces?

Way overbanked on pre-lift
Decapitated on Pre-lift

Keep chugging away at it, and it will get better.

^It's a Gravity Group, and most of there coasters have 90* banking. And it doesn't decapitate riders. Posted Image

^But not during the pre-lift. If you're going for realism at all, I would say keep the pre-lift but make the whole thing a bit more gradual and tame.
