Too bad I don't have any money. Are they saying that it's in the same format as the original? Or is it different?

This is great to hear! Although I don't own a 3DS, and probably never will, it's nice to hear that the franchise hasn't died. The last RollerCoaster Tycoon to come out was way back in 2004. Maybe there will be a RollerCoaster Tycoon 4 in the near future!

Well put. I'm as well glad to see RCT back in action, though it is on a gaming platform I don't own and never will own. This might be the first signs of the RCT series revival and I do hope Atari goes through with RCT4 in the coming years.

Simply having an export isn't usually enough. From what I've read on SGW, it will likely be abridged, with no CS. That, to me, automatically ruins 99% of the fun. Just play it on a computer already.

It's nice to see the RCT thing back in action, but I can't help but think that they didn't think this through. They can either neuter the original games or make it so tedious to just build a roller coaster let alone theme it and put in in a park that has a somewhat decent layout. Little in RCT is really intended for arrow keys and A & B buttons. It's a PC game, therefore, we can have a gazillion different little menus and all you have to do is move your mouse into a slightly different spot, rather than press A and then right six times.

The ONLY reason this is being made is because it's in 3D and they remember watching the roller coaster scene in Despicable Me and thought that would be a sweet thing to do with their newfound technology, and then took an old franchise so they don't actually have to think and design things from the ground up.

Actually, this game may be a step backward, because if it fails to get good reviews and/or fails to sell well, they may decide to buck the franchise for good and we'll never get RCT 4. Only my processor is happy about that prospect.

Anyone know which RCT this will be based off of? IMO, with the 3DS platform it only makes sense to use RCT3 but that's not a given.

They may even create it's own RCT game but have everything simpler in menus and stuff for the smaller screens. I know they did that with another popular franchise in Sim City for the handheld systems. It's like the same game but made easier for touch controls.

Yeah it sounds like the developer is going to make a new game but have it under the same name and idea. I'm pretty sure they just used that RCT2 image for the article.

The 3DS has a touch screen, so it would be like using a mouse, actually...

Anyway, while I didn't really intend to buy a 3DS (mostly because I played it for five minutes once and it made me feel nauseous), curiosity might get the better of me. I also want Mario Kart for it, and a few other games, so maybe in like two years I'll buy it once they come out with "the next big thing" I'll look into a used one :P

I saw a few screenshots and it looks just like RCT3, but without all the cool features. That means no custom scenery, no sharing, hard to control, and you have to play on a small screen. I do hope this is just the beginning of reviving the RCT franchise, just hope they go back to their roots.

Oh my... I think I just saw that same screenshot, I'll bet.

It looks absolutely horrible. Seriously, it looks WORSE than RCT3. The grid system is still there, the pre-formed track pieces are still there, the ugly pole supports are still there... this is an absolute disaster. I thought by now they would have at least redesigned the engine instead of using the same outdated, seven year old one.

This better be just a test or something. They should have just gone with the original isometric graphics.

I found it on Atari's website. Look at the screen shots at the bottom. It Looks almost identical to RCT3. I wonder how they will execute the two screens. Maybe have the top one for viewing and bottom for building?

Everyone needs to remember that this game is not designed for us. It is made for an 8-12 year old that wants to play a fun game. They don't care about custom scenery or recreating parks / rides. Catering to us enthusiasts is not a smart business move. We will only be an extremely small fraction of the total sales.

Honestly though, what did you guys expect? I didn't get excited about this because most games that go to DS from other consoles or anything tend to be crappier. Ex. Guitar Hero On Tour or whatever it was. It was cool, but nothing like the real thing. Too me it just looks like a lower graphic quality RCT3, which is what it should be.

I don't know. I guess I'm still hopped up about the possibility of a fourth "RCT"... and I'm just afraid that if this is what they're doing with this, what are they going to do with that...? I mean, since TPB3D, or whatever it's called, has been cancelled, the only tool that anyone has to design a realistic park with is either RCT2 or RCT3, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that wants the supposed "RCT4" to be the best it can possibly be while still catering to the GP.

So, I guess the reason I'm upset over this is because I'm scared-- yes, scared-- that this is their idea of "good enough", and that this idea will influence the development of "RCT4", so that it ends up being... well, not what I or the Atari fanbase want it to be.

But since this is just for the 3DS, then, you're right Thunderhead, this is probably why it's a lower quality RCT3. It's just that... I don't know... I get worried about things like this.

I completely understand what you're saying, and with RCT4 still up in the air, if this doesn't do good then it will send RCT4 down the drain.

I wasn't really expecting too much, especially after playing the RCT that came out for the original xbox. Overall they're just a fun game to mess around with when you don't have access to a computer.
