Hello,

First off...weird, right? Anyway.....I was just having an awesome discussion with Mr. Shrout. We decided we should open it up to the forums. I couldn't agree more. First off...there is an older topic similar to this...but it's outdated and not exactly the same. So here we go....

There have been crazy progressions in the Flat Ride Industry, and I think it's about time we acknowledge them. The ones you have ridden, the ones you want to ride, or the ones you wouldn't dare try. I'll start it off...and Ryan shall join us later with some great input.

-Go to 2:40 for best part
First up....It's not brand new...but still tough to find. Extasy. This is an intense, fast, atmospheric ride that even got to my stomach after a few rides on it.

SCAT 2 (terrible video quality) This is an oldie, but a goodie. A take on the modern day gravitron. It has awesome forces.

Here's a ride I would love to get on, and there are many variations of them.

This also looks like a blast!

Now, on the major Theme Park side of things....I've grown to love the Huss Frisbees, and the S&S swings. I have heard mixed reviews...but I still think Sledgehammer at CW looks like fun

I wont have all the fun! Post your favorites...I know ryan showed me some pretty amazing rides earlier, I'll let him share those.

I'm a Screamin Swing guy. I just love them so much. I have a pretty weak stomach once multiple axes of rotation get going. For this reason Frisbees really get to me. And my latest back to back rides on a Zipper was the closest I've ever come to giving up my lunch to a ride. So for me a Screamin Swing is about the best thing out there. I love the airtime you get at the top of the swings so much. The views they create are great too.

Just by way of clarification, the difference between this topic and the old one is that the old one was a "what's your favorite flat ride" topic. This one is meant to point out the new additions to the EXTREME world of flat rides (whether or not you like them), since it's an area that is very often ignored by the coaster community, but I know lots of us around here LOVE.

Anything Huss has made, I'm a fan of. 2 in particular being the Giant Frisbee and Top Spins. With the frisbee, the swing adds a nice addition to the swinging and the views are great. Pretty thrilling as well being that high and with the angles you're at. With the Top Spin, its a completely unpredictable ride. With Crypt in its glory days at least, the Giant model added size to the equation, plus the flipping and high g spins are great.

I have to single out Viking Fury among swinging ships as its one of the larger versions and has some delectable air time. Being on the end over the water adds a nice open feeling as you head up. Speaking of swinging rides, S&S Screaming Swings are great in that department..

Windseekers are nice, but I only tend to ride KI's if the line is short and I need to burn off food. If I want a tall ride like that, I usually stick to drop towers.

My favorites are definitely "classics"....bordering on antique. I lover Spider/Monster/Octopus type rides as well as Enterprise/Witch's Wheel rides. I also love rotors, swings, and anything like Super Himalaya, the Matterhorn, Trokia, and Calypso (I think a few of those have been removed already).

What I can't handle myself are the rides like "Chaos" which add the additional spinning of the cars, and sometimes Top Spins bother me a bit too. Mostly though, I just hate everything falling out of my pockets, no matter how many buttons/snaps they have on them.

I've got other kinds I like too, and I look forward to trying some of the new ones, as long as they aren't "3D" dark rides (which give me motion sickness).

Speaking of Huss Giant Frisbee's (which are a personal favorite of mine as well), here's a new evolution of the ride I've found in my youtube perusing. If anyone remembers the discussion we had in the Future Ride ideas thread about a Frisbee that actually goes up and over the top, well I found one! Its a smaller model but has the whole swinging/spinning thing going on, plus it has freely rotating gondolas. It'll make more sense after you see it. So here:

Barnstormer at Dollywood is a blast. That's the only thing that comes to mind right now.

I'll ride anything by Mondial.
Everything by them just looks awesome.

The State Fair of Texas is a huge Monial client, also.

I love drop towers, especially the small ones. The airtime on it is crazy. I also love the Intamin drop towers, like the ones at Carowinds and Canada's Wonderland. Haven't been on a zipper, but I really want to though.

So in my youtube wanderings, I stumbled upon what must be the single most jacked up crazy flat ride concept ever invented by some psychopath in the amusement industry. I trust yall are all familiar with the Space Rings concept where one person gets tethered into a bunch of rings and spun in place on 3 different axis. Well someone apparently though it would be fun to put a 12 person capsule in the middle of that set up, and thus I now present you with.... The Group Space Ring!

The best for me:

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Kings Island)
Barnstormer (Dollywood)
Brain Surge (Nickelodeon Universe)
Dizzy Disk (Dollywood)
Hot Seat (Fun Spot USA, FL)
Mountain Slidewinder (Dollywood)
Skyhawk (Cedar Point)
Splash Mountain (Magic Kingdom)
Sum of All Thrills (Epcot)
SwingShot (Kennywood)
Test Track (Epcot)

I like Dollywood, Dorney Park, and Nickelodeon Universe much more than I do based just on their coasters.

Are there FLAT RIDE websites similar to those ?

So, I was reading back through this thread, does anyone know of any good carnivals in FL that have a pretty good ride line-up? I figure as long as I'm stuck here this summer, I should make the most of it.

Anything that doesn't spin or rotate in any way, shape, or form (besides Huss Topspins and Windseekers) is a "NO" in my book.

I'm not too big with flat rides. I go for the coasters mainly.

I've been on Excalibur at SFSL which is a very similar ride and I wasn't overly thrilled with it. The movement is just too slow.

Oh and here's one I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned, as its actually a larger park type flat. How about the Sky Swat? Personally I love the concept but haven't gotten to ride one.

My favorite flat ride comes to town every year as a part of the rodeo carnival. It's amazingly fun. You're flying through the air really fast and doing all these flips, it's so great.

I also really think that Air Race concept is pretty wicked and unique. Definitely something I would try out if I had the chance.

Oh man, I rode this one time when it was at Astroworld and it was just crazy. A ton of force gets put on you when you flip over like that, I thought it was cool but I prefer faster/more spinning flats.

Not really new, but I love Zamperla Power Surges! I went on one recently at Palace Playland in Maine, and it was awesome, they look slow from the ground, but one you're on it they're crazy, great forces and hard to tell which way is up.

That Air Race looks sick, I'm hoping it becomes more common, would love to ride one of them

Here's an old-school flat I found that actually looks really fun. Jump to about 45 seconds in to where it really gets interesting.
