Pretty sure nobody else has actually started a topic about this yet.

Another summer and another show about roller coasters.

Travel Channel has chosen several coasters to be put to a vote as which the best in each category.

See here: http://www.travelcha...ne-coaster-wars

Category 1: G-Force Giants.
Featuring:
Medusa at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom
SheiKra at Busch Gardens Tampa
Apollo’s Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Afterburn at Carowinds

Category 2: Hang 'em High
Featuring:
Manta at Sea World Orlando
Montu at Busch Gardens Tampa
Alpengeist at Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Aftershock at Silverwood

Category 3: Splintering Speedsters
Featuring:
Thunderhead at Dollywood
El Toro at Six Flags Great Adventure
The Beast at Kings Island
The Voyage at Holiday World

Category 4: Wrong Way Up
Featuring:
Kraken at Sea World Orlando
Wild Eagle at Dollywood
Hydra the Revenge at Dorney Park
Vortex at Kings Island

Categories 5 & 6, Extreme Heights and Speed Demons haven't released their coasters.

Will you watch? What would you choose? Thoughts?

I feel like they chose these very randomly...

-Medusa
-Alpengeist
-Beast
-Hydra (Why isn't Colossus in this category?)

When Yahoo, New York Post, or Travel Channel do something like this I seldom agree with their lists. I would say that they should leave this kind of thing to the "experts". The "Splintering Speedsters" is the only group that made any sense.

Ok, this is how I would vote in each category:

Apollo’s Chariot
Alpengeist
Thunderhead
Kraken

What four coasters would you put in those categories, then?

Anyway, I voted Afterburn and Alpie respectively, and for Splinterin', I'd pick El Toro. Don't think I'd vote for the 4th category.

I have to agree that I seldom agree with their lists, and I have no problem with public polls, but it would make everything far more interesting if they used enthusiast-ranked top coasters instead of seemingly random ones. Why aren't either of the giovanola sisters in the g-force giants? Just doesn't make sense to me. *shrug*

The "G-Force Giants" is the one I really don't get. What in the world do those four rides have to do with each other? They are all B&M. I'm lost. What kind of g-forces are we talking about. Let us put all the negative-g giants together like AC, Goliath, Diamondback, Bizarro.

There does seem to be a bit of a B&M bias to these lists. And while I personally somewhat share that bias, I would still like to see more variety in these lists.

I'm sure money was involved in this decision making process. I'd take them with a grain of salt. Just vote for whatever is your favorite and not according to the categories.

I305 will probably be in Extreme Heights. Or maybe speed demons.

Millennium Force is going to be in 5 or 6. Carsten Anderson is at Millie today filming for Travel Channel. Put two and two together.

July 8, ok great. That's why I couldn't find it. I had thought it was June 8. Dangit; still another month to wait.

So, I'm not sure what's more annoying, listening to the announcer talk about ride elements while the video shows a different one, or watching Robb Alvey dumb down coaster talk to GP terms.

^That's a few of many reasons why the only theme park related shows I watch on the Travel/Discovery Channels are the ones on water parks.

Haven't watched them yet, but I DVR'd them for later. After some conversations about these shows on Facebook last night, I may delete them and save myself some time.

Idk, I mean I still plan on watching the rest of the season. There's tons of great coaster footage. But I may mute the television while I do so, and fast forward past the parts where Robb is reading the cue cards.

I'm watching G-Force Giants. I loved the comment about Medusa which said something like "What Seperates Medusa with the rest is its G-Force."

So stupid.

I blew through Sunday's two episodes in about 8 minutes total. No amount of HD coaster footage is worth listening to the dreck spewing out of that insipid narrator's mouth. Man those shows are awful.
