Kings Dominion is "Breaking Records...Again!" A teaser banner has been put on Kings Dominion's website showing this image:

Posted Image

The countdown begins on September 12th!

This begs the question, what is coming to Kings Dominion in 2013 and is breaking records with it?

I think we'll be seeing the largest children's/family area in the Mid-Atlantic record happen here. Planet Snoopy was just recently introduced, and Kings Dominion is one of the last Cedar Fair parks to not have their children's areas converted to one consistent theme. Planet Snoopy ties in the rocket leaving our world going to another planet (top right of the picture).

2013 Agenda: Busch Gardens Williamsburg, Dollywood, Dollywood's Splash Country, and Carowinds.

Coaster Count: 120 - Griffon Count: 52

Yea Planet Snoopy seems to be to consensus here as to what it might be. KD does have a Planet Snoopy already, but the neighboring Kidzville could be converted to merge the two to make a giant area. However, I find it odd that they would have an image that large and exciting for a kid's area, it would give a very anti-climactic feeling IMO, but it prbably is Planet Snoopy.

I know this is probably a Planet Snoopy spiel, but I have to say this record breaking nonsense kind of came out of left field. If this is a Planet Snoopy upgrade...well...'kids area' and 'record breaking' aren't terms I'd really put together. It intriguing and baffling at the same time.

That's exactly what I was thinking. You would think that even the public to some extent would be like...omg KD is gonna break a record...oh...its Snoopy...nvm we're not going there now. Idk that's how I see it. If they were just going to do Snoopy than idk that they would make a big deal out of it. The guys on In-The-Loop had a few suggestions. If they add a launch coaster they would go back to 4 launched coasters (Volcano, FoF, and Backlot) since they had 4 when Hypersonic was still there. They also have five wooden coasters technically if you count Rebel Yell as two, so I imagine they would be the only park with six woodies if they go that route. If they added something over 300 feet then with I305, the Eiffel Tower, Drop Zone, and Windseeker they would have 5 rides above 300 feet which I also think would be a record of some sort. The limiting factor with it maybe being some kind of coaster is there hasn't been any construction of parts spotted that I know of, so it kind of limits to possibilities. It certainly seems like it would be a quantity thing rather than a superlative like tallest, fastest, longest anything UNLESS it is the biggest Snoopy area.

All I heard that they were doing was putting in a second loading area for Volcano to increase capacity. Maybe that is going to break some kind of capacity record the way they do it?

Well, the thing is with this is the use of an actual teaser for a kids area. We didn't see that at all with Kings Island's Planet Snoopy upgrade, and that of all the areas should have gotten teasers considering KI's kids area under the past few facelifts has gotten consecutive Golden Ticket awards. Why would KD of all parks be teasing for a new kids area facelift? That's the thing that is intriguing about this. The baffling thing, of course, is the whole mixing 'kids area' and 'record breaking' in the same sentence.

What's baffling? Someone made a guess that it's going to be a kids area upgrade based on a picture of a rocket in space, and everyone seemed to go with it.

I think it's going to be a new anti-gravity bathroom with urinals on the ceiling. I'm sure that'll break a record of some kind. The tagline could be something like "Go where no man has gone before."

Oh, crud. Nope, they can't do that. They could've when they were Paramount, though...

If its a coaster I think it will either be a launch coaster or a woodie. They need a good woodie. A prefab would be amazing. Gonna dream.

Space themed woody? Probably not happening. A launch coaster is a solid guess though. Here's a though - what if we're all right? They add a spaceship themed launched kiddy coaster to a Planet Snoopy overhaul? Then it could be the most launch coasters in a park, and the first launched kiddy coaster. Those would both be records.

^My thoughts exactly. Besides the fact that they would break some record for a launched wooden coaster in the process of everything else.

I'd like to guess maybe it could be this its a new concept of a zero gravity coaster here is a link to it http://www.space.com...er-coaster.html

company website: http://brcweb.com/brc/

This would be a perfect space themed ride but it costing 40 to 60 million is a lot for a coaster unless, they've found a way to lower the cost. It seems like a odd concept to with a enclosed capsule to but it maybe pretty cool to.

vinny, you just made me think of something. I don't think KD has any "simulator" rides (Busch Gardens Williamsburg has a couple). I think they could easily put one of those in without taking up a ton of space. It's a nice thing to do in severe weather (which is something the park is lacking right now) or in the heat of the day, as most are air-conditioned.

So, looking over the teaser, I discovered this. Looks a bit like Charlie Brown. What do think?

I concur. Like I said before, nothing else makes sense. Planet Snoopy takeover of Kidsville to make one giant children's area seems to be the most logical explanation.

Um. That shape is actually on the moon.

Not saying a Planet Snoopy expansion isn't a possibility, but "nothing else makes sense"? It absolutely must be this?

In the clouds on the same teaser there looks to be another shape but I couldn't make out what it is.

My nothing else makes sense was referring to the addition, not the thing looking like Charlie Brown. Very few 'big' additions surprise us, something usually always gets out, even if small. There is no land clearing, no trademark, no parts, no ride removals as of yet, nothing that runs along Cedar Fair's current trends, and the expansion/update of Kidsville has been rumored for a while now since Cedar Fair barely changed anything when forced to drop the Hanna Barbara licensing. That and Planet Snoopy is the only thing related to space in the park minus Flight of Fear, and this advertising doesn't seem very Flight of Fear-like, and what'd they do? Turn the trains around on a spaghetti bowl?! One more reason not to ride it.

Yep, I know. That's what I was referring to as well. I get the reasoning behind your prediction, I really do. I even get that that reasoning can help prepare us to expect the lame when we want the awesome.

But unless you or someone else knows otherwise, there is still the possibility that it might be something else.

Gotcha. I agree there is still a possibility, but if it is otherwise we have no indication of that either. With the information we have that's the conclusion I'm lead to make. More information that says otherwise, and I'll be on board with that.

As Vater was saying, that is the "Sea of Tranquility" in the picture, which is in the area where Apllo 11, the first manned mission to the moon, landed. The rocket in the picture is also the same type of rocket used in the Apollo 11 mission. Sometimes there is no "deeper meaning" to the clue than the clue itself.

There is the option that they are hinting at "Apollo" (the god of the moon) and NOT the actual moon landing, but I would find that odd with "Apollo's Chariot" being nearby. A simulation ride makes the most sense to me both with space the fact that we have been told it is "not a coaster" and the fact that it will be "record breaking." Setting a record in the simulation ride area would be something worth bragging about......having the largest Planet Snoopy? I'm not so sure about that.
