Well unfortunately I don't use WinAmp so I wouldn't know if you can use it to convert.
Here's how I do it. ("I" is the key word)
Step 1: You need a converter to convert an .MP3 file to a .WAV file (That is if the song you want in RCT2 is an MP3).
Step 2: Convert the MP3 to WAV.
Step 3: Open Up The Windows "Sound Recorder"
Step 4: Load The Newly Converted .WAV File
Step 5: Save over it as this format: PCM format, 22,050Hz,
16bit, Stereo.
Step 6: Move it to your RCT2 Directory --> Data folder.
Step 7: Rename it either Custom1 or Custom2
It should then appear in RCT2 as Custom Music 1 or 2 and should sound normal.
If you don't convert it to the correct WAV type, it will sound very, very distorted and high-pitched.

^Hmm, maybe that was my problome abck when I use to play.
Well RCT1 is easy (somewhat) to get custom music in, but I don't know about RCT2. EDIT: Yes I do.
If this helps anyone then I'll put the dirrections for RCT1:
1. Click the start menu and go to Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/ then click on the Sound Recorder.
2. Load your file on the sound recorder.
3. Now click save as... Under where you put in the file name and type of file you save it as there is the Format line.
4. Click Change next to where it says format.
5. Make the format PCM and change the Attributes to 22,050 Hz, 8 Bit, Stereo
6. Click ok.
7. Save it to C:\Program Files\Hasbro Interactive\RollerCoaster Tycoon\Data. Save the file titeled ether CUSTOM1 or CUSTOM2 in caps You can only have 2 custom music files.
EDIT: Here is how to do custom music for RCT2: (there are some differences in how you save the file between the two so im going to have to do this again)
1. Click the start menu abd gi ti Pragrams/Accessories/Entertainment/ then click on the Sound Recorder.
2. Load your file on the sound recorder.
3. Now click save as... Change the type of file to .WAV then under that click on CHANGE.
4. A new window should come up... Change the format to PCM. Change the Attributes to 22050Hz 16bit Stereo
5. Click okay and then Save your File as "CUSTOM1" or "CUSTOM2". Save the file in: C:\Program Files\Infogrames Interactive\RollerCoaster Tycoon 2\Data
NOTE: For Rollercoaster Tycoon 1 + 2 you may only have 2 custom music files.
2nd EDIT: WOW. I just realized that this thread is 5 years old....I just googled how to do it and i came here so i put it down.....
Hopefully people read this now....
