Life is like a roller coaster. It's one wild ride with many ups and downs and all you can do is hold on and enjoy the ride. ~CSF~

I'm 15 and I know I won't be traveling to Alton anytime soon, but just to watch the creation of out-of-the-ordinary american rides is what makes a real coaster-enthusiast. And how do you lose interest after being told not to guess? Beastfan didn't mean it like the way you took it, anyways. He said not to guess because Alton is so secretive.
Who cares if they're so secretive. The whole point of this thread is to try to predict what Alton might get.

Aside that, like I explaiend with the dive machine example, don't you ever see a coaster elsewhere and go "wow ii wish my local park had one, it would fit in perfectly."
Like how I think Thorpe Park should get one of those mini-mega coasters like Piraten.

Back on topic, I"m seriously wondering if Alton could somehow pull off a coaster that was almost entirely underground. I have no idea about the soil conditions in the area or haor stable that would be but I'm still trying to think of ways that Alton could get a woodie which they really do need. One idea would be an old RCT2 ride that just about everyone new to the game has created at some time or another. A ride where off the cain it dives underground and then from that point on only the crests of the hills are above ground with the valleys bellow ground. Personally I think the whole ide of the neighbors complaining because of noise is pretty stupid anyway. What about Oblivion? Its the only B&M not filled with sand for sound dampening and I'm sure the screams from the riders make plenty of noise as well. I don't here too many people complaining that they should take it down.

Now, if they were to put a coaster almost completely underground, it would be cool if it was a B&M floorless. Station 30-40 feet above ground with a 40 ft. chain lift, then have the first drop dive under ground. Then have a loop that is a little above ground level and have a path run under the top of the loop.

I've always been a fan of the woody idea. But that would probably get too loud and piss off the neighbors. So the most likely thing is a steel coaster with sand filled rails. I think a custom Euro-Fighter or a B&M coaster like Dæmonen would fit in well.

Yeah a wooden coaster would cause some noise, but it would be cool to see them get a looping coaster!

I actually raelly like that idea. The half submerged loop is one of my favorite ellementson craken because of the headchoppers entering and exiting the manouver. Also Alton could use a floorless. I think I would still rather tham find a way to get a wood. I've hear that Intamin Pre-fabs are a lot smother than normal wooden coasters, are they any quieter? Now, if they were to put a coaster almost completely underground, it would be cool if it was a B&M floorless. They are as smooth as B&M Hypers. If not, smoother.

Oblivion is only 80ft above ground.
Nemesis is, about... a few metres above ground. lol.
It's hard to tell what "above ground" is at Alton though. Because most of it is a valley which starts at the carpark and dips down 200ft before coming back up the other side.
So they have plenty of room for a near 200ft mega coaster, and I'm kind of shocked they don't look into a B&M hyper, It would mean taking out a ...lot of trees, but if they were considering a woodie in the same space that would have taken out more trees because of the intrusive supports. Perhaps the maintainance of keeping the woodland a safe cropped distance away from the coaster is a problem? But a B&M hyper would be far quieter than a wood, especially with attention made to further quietening it with sand.
That is probably really visually hard to understand, so here we go...

Top left, car park. You can see Nemesis and Air at the far back of the park up there too.
Now move your eyes right into the mass of trees which dip down like a huge dent in the ground. That's the valley. Far right you'll see it joins up near Rita.
Where Rita is is the easiest place in the park to gain planning permission, aparently, but there's a lack of space there.

That side of the park isn't so bad. It's Oblivion's side that is, you can't see iton that map.Alright, that picture just showed me something. I know the problem with building a woody is that the neighbors were complaining about noise. But what neighbors?! I see a bunch of empty fields.
Alton village is smaller than the park itself. But even the village isn't REALLY the problem. It's ONE family who live particually close to the park and have done since before Corkscrew was there.
Hopefully, they'll die soon.
The problem with the majority of the locals is they do not want unatural structures ruining the landscape. That's fair enough. In fact, if I lived in that village... Lots would piss me off. That road through it gets chocker block when the park opens and closes. And it is the smallest two lane road I have ever seen. Going to Alton Towers in a coach is a terrifying experiance.
This is Alton Village, you can see the park's Hotels in the top left and part of Air... And the mass of trees which make up the non-park side of the valley.

Off to the right is Alton village, the mass of trees at the front is how they got away with building Rita. You can see Rita, it's the smidgen of red just right of centre.
A road passes through from the right through those trees. That is the main road to the park. It passes Oblivion. See the lake? Just below it is a building, and next to that Oblivion. It's RIGHT on the park's boarder. The problematic family live on the plot of land oposite the road, to my understanding.

Basically picture this.
There is oblivion, one small row of trees, a narrow road and then the house is right there.
total distance is about 100-200ft, so you can understand way they complain a lot.
Having said that the house isn't very well maintained it just seems that they want a very large payoff for Alton to buy it.
The family in question have already got 1 ride removed and the annual fireworks display cancelled, so you can see what they are dealing with.
As for cutting the trees down to make room, this is the reason the 200ft drop woodie was shelved in 2003. The park wanted to cut 140 trees down and the locals protested more here http://www.towerstim...lans/woodie.htm.
Shame as it would of been some woodie. Not many parks could build a 70ft coaster with a 200ft drop.
There's no doubt that if it wasn't for the height restrictions then Alton towers would have some massive coasters on the scale that you see in the USA.
Having said that the height restriction works in there favour and forces them to come up with ideas like Nemesis and oblivion

Two blonds are driving down I 95 to Kings Dominian. They see a sign that says "Kings Dominain Left". So they turned around and went home.

1. Figure there will be noise from the park that you will hear from your house.
2. Have to agree to something saying you won't complain about loud noises from the park.
Those are just opinions. I really don't know what you have to do to live in Hershey, PA. I was just throwing those thoughts out there.
