Dollywood fans will now be excited to hear more about the park's coming attraction for 2012 as the proposal for the 2012 addition to Dollywood has officially been approved as of Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011. The Pigeon Forge Planning Commission had voted unanimously to get the attraction officially approved to come in 2012.

Not many details have been released on what the new addition will be, but one planning staff member says it looks like some kind of roller coaster according to the draft plans. According to Guy Wantiex, who is a Vision Engineering and Development Services staff member, the project will be rather large and is said to be located at the intersection of Wilderness Pass and Craftsman Valley areas at the entrance of Sky Zip, as reported by the Wilderness Press. Work is supposed to begin on this project during the park's regular season because a large portion of where this project is going to be started is located outside the main public areas. However, the park is only closed during three months of the season anyway, making it hard to do any project just during the off season.

A few more facts about the coming attraction is that excavation is going to have to take place in order to make a place for the ride. This excavation will take place on the hill below the Sky Zip platforms. A couple of buildings will also have to be relocated, as well as completely new buildings to be built. Retail space is most likely going to be a part of these new buildings. Last but not least, the ride will only reach a maximum height of eleven feet and shows a rather long and winding track.

Pete Owens, park spokesman for Dollywood, says that in early April 2011 there will be some new hype for this new attraction. However, the full announcement for this addition is not expected until the summer time hits. Owens said this announcement will not be like anything ever done before to promote a planned amusement park addition for a future season.
