Giant Ferris Wheel Approved for Las Vegas Strip

Las Vegas Strip Approved to get a Huge 500 Foot Ferris Wheel

June 1, 2011 - Robert Taylor

Las Vegas, Nevada - Travelers who are familiar with the London Eye that live in the Las Vegas area will be in for a treat within the next couple of years, as Las Vegas is now officially planning on getting a very similar attraction right on their very own strip. The Federal Aviation Administration gave the attraction an official "OK" as it will not affect McCarran International Airport, that is just about a half mile away from where the giant wheel will be standing.

Project developer Howard Bulloch, says the airplanes as well as the airport itself will not be effected by this new attraction. As long as the wheel is properly lit, the FAA will not have a problem with this part of the massive project. The wheel will be called the Skyvue Las Vegas Super Wheel will actually just a part of a $100 million project that will include a roller coaster, shopping, and places to eat. More details will be announced later on the roller coaster as well as the additional restaurants and shopping that will accompany this large project. The city of Las Vegas just recently lost the popular Speed-The Ride roller coaster, which was located in the Nascar Cafe, so thrill seekers will be excited when a new roller coaster emerges into the area once again. The project is expected to be completely done by 2013.

The Ferris wheel's gondolas would be larger than the standard Ferris wheel's capacity one sees at amusement parks and fairs. They would be large capacity gondolas, 40 of them total, each being able to hold up to 25 passengers, much like the one's on the famous London Eye in London, England. This giant wheel would actually be taller than the London Eye, as the London Eye is just 443 feet tall. These gondolas would also be able to be privately rented out for parties. The giant wheel would be constructed on the south end of the Las Vegas strip, across from the Mandalay Bay Resort, and offer unforgettable views of Sin City.

The Skyvue Las Vegas Super Wheel would offer fantastic views of the Las Vegas Strip and its beautifully lit site of casinos and other famous attractions. The wheel would sit perpendicular to the Strip, allowing for these breath taking photo opportunities of the well-known Las Vegas area for both residents of Las Vegas and many tourists that visit each year. A huge LCD display, larger than a football field, will be in the middle of the giant wheel, and 200,000 square feet of shops and restaurants coming with the project will be scattered around the base of the giant wheel structure. A single revolution for one to go around one full revolution on the massive 50 story structure will be somewhere around $20 and $25. A second giant wheel is also in the plans from Caesar's Entertainment to be put up in the north part of the strip, most likely between Imperial Palace and Flamingo Properties. Skyvue will be the tallest observation wheel in the Northern Hemisphere on debut.
