Height Increase for Six Flags Great Adventure's 2012 Attraction

SkyScreamer height changed to 24 stories.

October 1, 2011 - biZarRo

Jackson, NJ - In September, Six Flags Great Adventure announced their new flat ride package for 2012. But the main ride in the package, SkyScreamer, is actually a lot taller than when it was originally announced.

The planned 150 feet has been changed to 240 feet which will tower over most rides at the park, including the nearby Nitro, the park’s B&M Megacoaster, which sits at 230' high.

As stated by Theme Park Tourist, SkyScreamer is yet another variation of the classic "Chair-o-Plane," or Waveswinger, rides which date back to 1908 at Idora Park in Oakland, California. These rides are found at many parks around North America and the UK with some in Italy.

Although SkyScreamer is derived from these fairground rides, that doesn't mean that it’s as thrilling. SkyScreamer will reach to the sky 240' with the seats surpassing speeds of 43 MPH and will have a 98' circumference around the central tower.

This is not the first SkyScreamer for Six Flags as two have already opened in 2011 at Six Flags St. Louis and Six Flags Discovery Kingdom. Six Flags over Texas will also be receiving a SkyScreamer. All of the Six Flags parks in the chain are receiving something new, from new shows to major new coasters. Six Flags Fiesta Texas is also receiving a SkyScreamer. Six Flags America and Six Flags New England are both receiving relocated coasters from Six Flags Great America and Six Flags Magic Mountain, respectively. Six Flags America will receive Iron Wolf from Six Flags Great America, but the ride will be revamped to Apocalypse: The Last Stand. Six Flags New England is receiving Deja Vu from Six Flags Magic Mountain but is renaming the ride to the overly used name Goliath. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom and Six Flags Great America are both building all-new coasters for 2012. Six Flags Great America will receive X-Flight, a B&M Wingcoaster. Six Flags Discovery Kingdom is adding Superman: Ultimate Flight which is a very unique launched ride by Premier. Six Flags Magic Mountain is receiving the tallest drop ride in the world at 415,' Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom. What is interesting about this attraction, though, is that it sits on the same structure as Superman: Escape from Krypton, a launched Intamin shuttle coaster which was the first coaster to break the 100 MPH speed barrier.

Along with SkyScreamer, Six Flags Great Adventure is receiving bumper cars, a scrambler, and a Flying Elephant ride targeted for the children. Hurricane Harbor will receive Drop Boxes, which is the same concept as the new water slides at Six Flags St. Louis and the Great Escape. The names of these attractions are Bonzai Pipeline and Alpine Freefalls, respectively.
