No passengers aboard

November 5, 2011 - Tyler Carlton

Hong Kong, China - Problems are adding up for Disney's foreign parks as an accident has just occurred at Hong Kong Disneyland involving the derailing of the park's train. This is in addition to last week's incident on Big Thunder Mountain at Disneyland Paris.

According to The Standard, the accident at Hong Kong Disneyland happened when the park's train derailed while attempting to return to its depot. Fortunately, this meant that the train was empty besides the driver. This also means that no one was hurt in the accident.

Initial investigations showed that the accident was strictly a human error and not a flaw in the train. The Standard is reporting that a Hong Kong Disneyland representative said that the driver did not provide adequate space for the train to change from one line to another. This resulted in six of the wheels in the front of the train becoming derailed.

After the accident Electrical and Mechanical Services Department was informed and they quickly ruled out a mechanical failure. This left only human error as the cause. As a result the driver of the train at the time was suspended, according to The Standard.

A slight controversy arose becuase Hong Kong Disneyland didn't release a statement until the story was uncovered by news outlets according to The Examiner. Hong Kong Disneyland claims they took this action becuase the accident did not involve any guests and the train was out of service at the time.Investigations by both Hong Kong Disneyland and the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department are still ongoing according to The Standard.
