New Amusement Park to Open in Pigeon Forge
Fun Spot to Feature Zip Line, Go Karts
May 20, 2012 - Tori Finlay
Pigeon Forge, Tennessee - Pigeon Forge seems to be the place for adventure lovers, as another amusement park is opening in the town nestled in the Great Smokies. Fun Spot might not compete with nearby Dollywood, but it will provide even more entertainment to Pigeon Forge visitors.
The small park intends to open ten carnival style rides. Among these rides is Soaring Eagle zipline.
“The Soaring Eagle Zip Line is a two passenger ride. Customers are loaded from the ground and are brought to the top of the 80-foot tall zip line,” Tony Joiner, Fun Spot’s manager, explained to Tennessee Journalist. “The zip line will go over a mini golf course, and will go over a giant volcano, and will narrowly pass through the 150 foot tall Skyscraper ride, Sling Shot, and the 65 foot Ferris wheel.”
Skyscraper is swings riders at 60 miles per hour, going in a giant circle around a central pivot, and is often found in extreme sections of amusement parks.
The new park will also feature three different go-kart tracks. The Pro Track is an elevated track, sitting two stories high. A slick track is also being built, allowing drivers to slide to their carts around corners. Finally, a junior track will allow younger children to drive their own cars at their own speeds.
“A fun family orientated atmosphere is what we are going for at Fun Spot,” Ralph Hamlin, Funspot’s owner told Tennessee Journalist. “There are rides for every different age group here.”
The park is an update on what was previously Smokey Mountain Speed Park, and resides less than three miles from Dollywood.
Fun Spot’s Pro Track is currently open, and the rest of the park plans to open by May 25th.
