Pirate Reef Makes Waves at LEGOLAND California
New Ride Mixes Classic and Modern...With Legos!
June 9, 2012 - Tori Finlay
Carlsbad, California -
© LEGOLANDA ride full of both water and adventure has revealed itself at LEGOLAND California. Pirate Reef opened recently to the public, but not before it was given the true Southern California start treatment – red carpet and all.
According to Theme Park Tourist, the ride combines the popular splash battle concept with the classic shoot-the-chutes notion to create a very fun and exciting experience. Boats of 20 people or less rise 25 feet before falling back down into the ride’s lagoon, being quickly greeted with a wall of water.
This is where the shoot-the-chutes segment ends, though. Once the water has fallen, the passenger boats cross under a bridge that connects two pirate ship replicas. Complete with water cannons, the two ships are able to shoot water at each other and at the riders of Pirate Reef.
LEGOLAND California knows how to open a ride, and of course a red carpet was involved. According to the San Diego Scoop, many stars were in attendance, ranging from movie stars to athletes and television stars from soap operas to HBO hit series.
Steve Blake, point guard for the Los Angeles Lakers told the Scoop, “It was awesome and wet for sure… I absolutely can’t wait to ride again.”
“Oh man, they say you’re going to get wet and yes, you get wet!” X Games skateboarding star, Andy Macdonald told the Carlsbad Patch. “It’s good fun though; it’ll keep you cool on a hot day…It’s perfect.” Macdonald had brought his father along to enjoy his first trip on the new ride.
With such rave reviews from its premiering passengers, the new water ride should be a hit among LEGOLAND California’s guests. The ride is now open to the public.
