Visit Orlando, has recently published that the theme park capitol of the world brought in 55.1 million visitors last year. Orlando becomes the first United States travel market to top the 55 million mark just one year after it became the first to break the 50 million barrier, which it did in 2010, bringing in 51.5 million guests that year.

This news comes right as the Orlando theme parks have announced yet another price increase, coming ever closer to the $100 milestone. At this moment, a one-day/one-park ticket to either Walt Disney World or Universal Studios Florida costs $89 for an adult. But if history is any indication, such price increases won't deter the region's tourism numbers.

Last year's record numbers surpassed even the visitor's bureau's anticipated growth, which forecast the region's total number of visitors coming in at 54.3 million in 2011. Of course, the Orlando surpassed that number by more than a million extra visitors. And if the economy continues to improve, there's no reason to think that these numbers will not continue to rise in the future.
