New water coaster coming to Splash Country for 2013.A new attraction is about to come sliding into Dollywood's Splash Country. The park has recently announced that it is planning to add a water coaster for the 2013 season. The new attraction will be named RiverRush and will be the first water coaster in the state of Tennessee.
Theme Park Tourist is reporting that the water coaster will be similar to the record breaking Mammoth water coaster that opened at Holiday World this year. However, RiverRush will be slightly shorter.
RiverRush starts out with a conveyor belt lift that leads to a 25 foot tall drop at 45 degrees taken in rafts filled with four guests. Also part of the action will be three more drops and several twists and turns. The ride will also feature linear induction motors to push the rafts uphill in some sections. If those motors sound familiar its becuase they are similar to ones used on coasters such as Intamin's impulse coasters, a technology which has slowly been adapted over the past few years for use on the new breed of water coasters.
In a quote posted by Theme Park Tourist and Market Watch park co-owner Dolly Parton said, "At Dollywood, we made history with Wild Eagle, the country's first wing coaster, so I thought, why not do it again at Dollywood's Splash Country with my new RiverRush water coaster. You know me. I love making a big splash, and RiverRush is all that and a whole lot more!"
Market Watch also provided a quote from Amy Owenby, Vice President of Waterparks. She said, "RiverRush is a product of the next generation of water coasters, and we are thrilled that Dollywood's Splash Country will be home to Tennessee's first and only water coaster for families to enjoy."
