Water World Denver Opens New HydroMagnetic Ride
July 25, 2012 - Coasterholic14
Denver, Colorado - Water World in Denver, Colorado has recently opened up its newest water attraction, The Mile High Flyer. The new ride is from ProSlide’s newest generation of HydroMagnetic coasters known as a “HydroMagnetic Rocket.” Though it will be the seventh of its kind in the US, joining the likes of Wildebeest at Holiday World, and 11th such in the world, Mile High Flyer will open as the first of its kind in the Western U.S.
At a cost of $4.5 million, the nearly 1000-foot long water coaster is the largest single investment in Water World’s history. Seating up to four passengers, the ride starts with a climb up a conveyor system, which has sound effects that imitate the clanking sound of a traditional roller coaster lift hill, according to Amusement Today. The ride itself features five up-hill segments, which includes a “camel hump” (double-up equivalent), several enclosed sections, 9 drops, and a final 360-degree helix that ends with a floating splashdown.
The first passengers who rode were mostly employees who got to experience the ride nearly a month ago in late June. Since then, the park went through a soft opening period starting earlier in July before the recent grand opening. Water World spokeswoman Joann Cortez told La Voz Colorado “It will knock your socks off!”
According to the Denver Post, the new ride stands right near the front entrance of the park at 88th Avenue and Pecos Street. Steve Loose, GM of Water World, told the news source that “This is going to be a very popular ride…I think it will add some visibility and excitement for people who are driving by and people who live in the area.”
