This handout of Flashback and Texas Chute Out was released as Six Flags Over Texas decided to announce the pair or rides to come down after September 3rd.Two rides that have adorned the Six Flags Over Texas skyline will soon be retired at the original Six Flags park. Texas Chute Out and Flashback were announced to be leaving the Arlington park on their website on August 2nd. Fans have until Labor Day weekend, or September 3rd to have their final rides on the amusement ride pair.
Texas Chute Out is a ride that has been at Six Flags Over Texas since 1976, making it one of the oldest rides at the park. This Intamin Parachute Ride is 225 ft tall, making it also one of the tallest rides at the park, just short of Titan, the Oil Derrick, and Superman: Tower of Power. According to Six Flags Over Texas's website, the ride has given more than 29 million rides. Another bit of history is that in 1994, the basket type carriages were replaced with standard chairs. The ride is modeled after a ride originally at New York's Coney Island park.
Flashback is one of the major coasters that the park has had in its collection. It is a Vekoma standard Boomerang, the 16th coaster of this model ever produced. It features twin lifts heading up to 116 ft, both forwards and backwards as it is a shuttle style coaster. The ride's elements consist of a cobra roll with 2 inversions before sending riders the opposite direction from when it entered the roll, and a vertical loop. Since the elements were taken twice, the ride was said to have 6 inversions. The ride opened in 1989 and has given 17 million rides in its 23 year service. The ride used a single 7 car train with 2 rows of 2 abreast riders.
Six Flags Over Texas has not mentioned if the rides were to be replaced by anything nor have mentioned if the rides might happen to be relocated to other Six Flags parks, much like last year when Six Flags Magic Mountain's Deja Vu was moved to Six Flags New England as Goliath.
