Roller Soaker's Future Uncertain

Hersheypark Statement Leaves Door Open for Future Sale

August 25, 2012 - Mike Strobel

Hershey, Pennsylvania - There seems to be a conundrum over the future of Hersheypark's Roller Soaker ride recently. On Tuesday, August 21st, Theme Park Tourist, quoting a story on Screamscape, reported that the small suspended coaster was listed for sale on the ride trade website, Rides4U.com, for $799,000. This got the coaster community excited, but slightly confused, because the park had yet to make an official announcement about the ride being closed or remove.

However, some of that confusion may have been cleared up by the article posted by the Lebanon Daily News on ldnews.com, stating they talked with Hershey spokeswoman Kathy Burrows. Burrows clarified that, "The ride is not for sale," and also stating one company who was interested in buying Roller Soaker "jumped the gun" and "its going to stay for the season." She did not however comment on the actual future of the ride. The listing on Rides4U has since been removed from public view, but can can still be found at the direct link to the listing.

Roller Soaker has been operating at Hersheypark's Boardwalk since 2002 and is one of 4 suspended coasters designed by Setpoint. According to RCDB.com "Each car holds 16 gallons of water that can be bombed onto riders waiting in line, while water cannons on the ground can be used to spray riders." Roller Soaker will be closing for the season along with all other water rides on the Boardwalk at 6pm on Labor Day, September 3rd.
