New Coaster for Fårup Sommerland

Orkanen to Open in 2013

August 26, 2012 - Danny Miller

Saltum, Denmark - The popular Fårup Sommerland park in Denmark has announced that they will be adding a suspended coaster built by Vekoma that will open for the 2013 operating season. The ride, which will be a custom design, will be named Orkanen, which translates to “Hurricane” in English.

According to an article (translated to English here), Orkanen will be classified as a family coaster, and will have a lift height of 20 meters (about 65 feet), and a top speed of 75 KMH (46 MPH). At the bottom of the first drop, the ride will go through an underwater tunnel, similar to the one found on Anaconda at Kings Dominion, before lifting into a “Horseshoe” over-banked turn.

The 453 meter (1,486 feet) long tack will consist of a few camel backs and speed bumps as well as multiple highly banked turns and curves. The ride does not have any inversions, but the suspended trains will feature only lap bars. The ride also appears as if it will feature light blue track and white supports.

Despite it seeming to be a fairly wild ride and pulling a maximum of 3.5 G’s, Orkanen will allow riders that meet a 105-centimeter height requirement to ride. For comparison, that is a little over 41 inches, which is less than the requirement for the wooden coasters at Knoebels.

Orkanen is scheduled to open on June 5 of 2013 as the parks sixth coaster, and will be the parks first inverted coaster. Construction on the ride will begin right after the park closes for the 2013 season on September 9.
