August 29, 2012 - Coasterholic14
Richmond, British Columbia, Canada - WhiteWater West Industries, the world’s leading water-based attraction provider out of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, has recently announced that they have acquired Hopkins Rides. Though the entities will now be part of WhiteWater, Hopkins will retain its name and continue to offer its popular selection of rides according to Amusement Today and other sources.
Hopkins Rides, formerly O.D. Hopkins, based out of Palm City, Florida, started its business in 1979 with the installation of ski lifts in the 1960s, expanding to water-based attractions. The rides that Hopkins offers include the famous Log Flume Ride, Super Flume, Shoot-the-Chute, River Raft Ride, and water transportation systems. Jim Glover, director of sales for Hopkins, told Park World Online “We’re ecstatic to be part of WhiteWhater!” Glover went on to tell Amusement Today that the deal has been in the work for weeks, and is excited for the future of Hopkins Ride with WhiteWater.
Started in 1980, WhiteWater West started as a small provider of waterpark attractions and has expanded into one of the most popular and well-known in the industry. WhiteWater takes their attractions through design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation. Amongst the companies more popular attractions are the AquaPlay interactive structures, FlowRider surf machines, MasterBlaster, the AquaLoop, AquaCourse aquatic ropes course, and wave-generating equipment. Teri Ruffley, Managing Director of WhiteWater’s amusement rides told Amusement Today, “Having Hopkins Rides on board advances our mission to bring the market the most exciting and divers aquatic amusement park attractions portfolio in the world.”
With the acquisition of Hopkins, long known as “the waterflow experts” according to Park World Online, WhiteWater now has a global network of 19 sales offices. The deal expands upon WhiteWater’s list of water-based offerings for attractions, while helping to get the long-standing Hopkins more exposure due to WhiteWater’s wider reach.
