Trappers Smokehouse is one of the existing buildings found in the New France themed area where the new thrill ride is planned to reach 210-foot heights.More details for Busch Gardens Williamsburg's newest thrill ride have emerged three days before James City County reviews the proposal for what could soon become the park's largest ride project.
As we reported on Jan. 26, Busch Gardens applied for a waiver to 60-foot height restrictions in order to construct the new thrill. Now, details are out on just how far beyond the restrictions Busch plans to push the project.
Encompassing five acres of land surrounding the New France themed area, plans for the new ride call for a maximum 210-foot height. This would make it 40 feet taller than 1999's Apollo's Chariot, currently the state's largest coaster.
An existing attraction will need to be removed to make way for the station building and queue area. This attraction is located along the ride's path around the center area of the property taking it adjacent to the far cobra roll turnaround of Alpengeist. Busch has failed to reveal which attraction is on the chopping block, however.
A station building and queue house will occupy 7,500 square feet of land, and the buildings will reflect the New France setting with wooden framing, stonework, and stucco.
The James City County Planning Commission will review the propositions Monday at 7 p.m., and the Board of Supervisors is scheduled to review the proposed height waivers April 11. It is expected that the plans will receive approval due to the ride's location towards the center of the park and Busch Gardens' tradition of blending new attractions into the theme park's existing scenery.
