© Cedar PointCedar Point has always been known for their outstanding, world-class coasters. But in the middle of the 1990's, they realized that they were lacking a major thrill ride that wasn’t a coaster. The answer to the problem came in the form of Power Tower. Debuting in 1997, Power Tower was unique and modern thrill ride addition to the park. Created by S&S Power of Utah, this ride made its mark as the largest tower complex in the world upon debut. This 300-foot-tall, quadruple-towered monster could be seen from all over the park and from miles around Cedar Point's peninsula. The Power Tower cars surround each of the towers, restraining riders by over-the-shoulder-harnesses and seats leaving their feet dangling. It is located by Corkscrew.
On Power Tower, there are four towers. Two are for the Turbo Drop style, and two are for the Space Shot style. You pick either queue, whichever you prefer. If you decide to queue up for Turbo Shot then you will probably have to wait longer than the Space Shot because the right duration is longer, therefore less capacity. You finally board onto one of two Turbo Shot Towers. After being strapped in, the car moves up a few feet. The ride operators check to make sure your restraints are locked and buckled. Finally “Clear Clear” and slowly you make your way up the 240 foot tower. Anticipation grows, as everything around you seems so tiny. Finally at the top there is a sudden stop. You sit up there for about 15-20 seconds. It is a different length each time because the ride operators decide when to drop you. Before you know it, you are pushed down by compressed air and you are freefalling almost to the bottom, where you make a small bounce and slowly you are brought back to the loading platform.
Boarding the Space Shot side, you are loaded on to one of two towers. After being locked at secured you wait for the launch to start. You hear compressed air going through the tower. Finally you are launched up at 40 mph to the top of the 240 tower. As stunning as the view maybe, before you know it you are falling back toward earth and make a bounce back up and slowly come back to the bottom.
