How could Paramount’s Kings Dominion follow up with another great roller coaster after adding Hypersonic XLC? The answer may not be something you would expect. Kings Dominion decided to add another family type coaster in 2002 with the addition of Ricochet. This Mack built wild mouse coaster is located in the Grove area of the park, between the Rebel Yell and the Hurler. The Ricochet is considered as a stationary wild mouse coaster with an additional drop. This additional drop is a 50-foot high thrill that comes at the beginning of the ride. This coaster also gives the riders a thrilling three minute ride on around 1,300 feet of track. Although each car on this coaster only holds four passengers per trip, the Ricochet has ten cars running to keep the line moving smoothly. The Ricochet also became Kings Dominion twelfth roller coaster and thirteenth coaster track overall.
Once the guests make their way through the queue line that travels under the track of the Ricochet, they walk up to the station and board the car. As the car leaves the station, it does a 135-degree turn and starts up the lift hill. Once the cars reach the top of the lift, they do another 135-degree turn that brings them up to 50-foot drop. After the train reaches the bottom of the drop, it immediately comes back up and goes into a sharp turn. After this, the riders then go through a series of thrilling hairpin tight turns. It is here that most people realize why some rides like this are called a dizzy mouse. Once through the first series of hairpin turns, the riders then go through a small dip that leads into a turn-around. After the riders roll through the turn, they go into another set of tight turns. After a few more quick turns the car travels back to the station after a thrilling near three minute ride.
