Martin's Fantasy Island was always a small town park near Niagara Falls but in 1999 they made a big update to the park that was a bit more than an addition to their carnival ride collection. The new wooden roller coaster Silver Comet was opened. This became the greatest investment in the park's history. Designed and manufactured by Custom Coasters International, this woodie opened and was instantly a success and one of the best, if not the best wooden roller coaster in New York.

Once you get close to Silver Comet you notice that the queue line isn't that large and you will probably be able to walk, or run, right to the stairs. Once boarding the single Philadelphia Toboggan Company train, the lapbars are lowered, checked, and you are out of the station slapping hands with the operator. Around a 180-degree turn, the train starts its journey up the 95 foot first hill. Once at the top, the train and its riders plummet down 83 feet and make a slight left hand turn at the bottom over a small camelback, producing endless amounts of airtime. Next, the coaster maneuvers through the twisted turnaround and back in the opposite direction, over a double dip on the way down. The train then makes its way through a vicious "twister" section by reaching the height of about 70 feet, and then completing a 180 degree right-hand turn which drops to about 40 feet and up another hill to about 60 feet before another 180-degree turn before plummeting its riders very close to the ground and through a turn producing extreme lateral g-forces. Finally, the train makes its way flying over a bunny hop and a right hand turn and onto the brakes.

Although Silver Comet isn't the largest wooden roller coaster this woodie certainly proves that bigger is not necessarily better.
